StreetWYSE was a new urban arts experience produced as a WYDmoves initiative. It was unleashed to packed audiences at the Spraoi festival in August 2010. This exciting production featured dancers, local freerunners 'BlitzTricks', an abandoned vehicle and some very interesting urban graffitti art.
The audience was wowed by displays of martial arts and street dance all choreographed into a 15 minute spectacular performance that told the story of two rival gangs battling out their conflict. All ended well as a resolution was found, harmony restored and a feast of a finale was reached by the entire cast of the performance.
Congratulations go to the performers, David, Syafiq, John, Stephen, Peter, Sean, Sinead, Ailish and to graffitti artist Theon Doran, who all did an amazing job, and anyone who saw the performance will undoubtedly agree.
This was the first of its kind by the dance unit, but not the last. So hold tight -- for the new urban arts experience may be coming your way in the future!!
“An impressive display” --Ciaran Murphy, The Irish Times.
