New Youth Dance Company in South East
In recent years contemporary dance has moved center stage, high profile Irish companies such as CoisCeim and Daghdha attract professional dancers and choreographers to live and work here in Ireland. Career opportunities in dance are becoming a reality. This exciting new initiative based in Waterford will help committed young dancers to make the step into the professional dance world. The Youth Dance Company will offer talented dancers, from a variety of training backgrounds, living in the South East of Ireland the opportunity to explore and develop technical, performance and choreographic skills. Auditions will be held annually to select 20 young dancers aged 15 to 25 who have the energy, creativity and commitment needed to be a part of this exciting and innovative company. Young dancers from throughout the south east of Ireland - East Cork, Waterford, Wexford, Kilkenny, Carlow and South Tipperary are invited to apply for auditions on Thursday 20th April 2006 in Waterford. Choreography will be a combination of work from Artistic Director Libby Seward, the company members and international guest choreographers. Under the heading of contemporary dance theatre, Libby’s work fuses a variety of dance styles and art forms, and has been well received both nationally and internationally. The main focus will be on the performance of original, groundbreaking dance, demonstrating the creativity and professionalism of the company. Performance opportunities throughout the year will include: the national Youth Dance Festival in Dublin; high profile street theatre in Waterford; Arts Festivals and dance events in Ireland, the UK and Newfoundland. Dance on Film and commissioned Dance Productions. There will be opportunities for company members to further their training by attending residencies, professional company workshops, and exchanges with other youth dance companies both here and in the UK.
