TWENTY FOOT HIGH, THIRTY FEET DEEP

Two groups come together to tell a story of two nations: one ruined by flood and chaos, the other willing to help only when charity seems fashionable. But time is running out and storm clouds are building across the globe. Boundaries must break down if anyone is to survive the terror to come . . .

UNIQUE EXCHANGE PROJECT

7 July 2007: A group of 16 from our older drama Workshops took part in the first half of an exchange to London. We worked with a Youth Drama group from Croydon, putting together a play and performing it at the BYTF (Big Youth Theatre Festival). We were in London 8 days and gained much experience from this event.

The play was written by London writer Richard Vincent and was premiered in Croydon's Shoestring Theatre on Weds. 11th July. The play looks at the very topical issue of global warming and its effect on two neighbouring countries, one of which is hit by a terrible hurricane.

What makes the project unique is that the writer wrote the play with the two groups in mind. The two groups separately rehearsed their sections of the play and then, when they met up, they had a couple of days to pull it all together as one play. The Waterford side of the production was directed by Nick Kavanagh.

The BYTF is predominantly an outdoor camping event designed for groups and individuals involved in youth theatre. The programme provides opportunities to perform, to take part in a wide range of workshops, to see others perform and meet, socialise and celebrate involvement in youth theatre with other youth theatre members the world over.
