FINANCE AND COMMISSIONS

WYD-Eye can advise and help community, youth and school groups in search for possible funding sources. Also video production has become more accessible in recent years. Every project is individual and has to be budgeted accordingly. The more detailed information we have on a project, the more accurately we can project the budget.

If you have a project in mind, contact us (email ken@waterfordyoutharts.com) and we can give you a quote.

In choosing WYD-Eye Film Unit for your film/video needs, you will also be supporting the youth of Waterford.

YOUTH FILM

The Youth section offers filmmaking workshops to young people and produces quality short films. WYD-Eye is also available to work with specialised youth groups and schools across the South East region.

Example of youth film project: ‘Afternoon Tea’. This film was made during WYD-Eye Film Unit's summer project 2007. 12 young people took part in the project. It was directed by Nike Akinfenwa and stars Robert Brown, Shauna Farrell and Marjorie Hutchinson. A bank robbery that goes wrong leads the robber and his hostage to a sweet old lady's house in the country.  (Back to top)

COMMUNITY FILM

Community Film, involves working with community groups to produce films on social and community issues. Training in filmmaking is also available to community groups. It can also be a resource to document the work of community groups. Many marginalised groups can use video to achieve a positive message in the media and public eye.

Example of community film project: ‘After I’ve Gone’. This short film was a collaboration between WYD-Eye Film Unit and Ciorclach Drama group. It explores the idea of who will look after an adult with special needs if the primary carer dies. The story revolves around P.J. and Nicholas, two brothers, one with special needs.  (Back to top)

SUPPORTING THE ARTIST

WYD-Eye supports local artists and has documented work in music, theatre and all performing arts. It has also created work which has been an integral creative part of various shows. Visual artists have also used the services in their presentations in art and performance.

Example of Supporting the Artist: ‘Battered Cod’. This short dance-documentary film reflects on the demise of the fishing industry worldwide, focusing on a small fishing community in South East Ireland and on the experiences of the people of Newfoundland. The film was funded through a grant from the Ireland Newfoundland Partnership.  (Back to top)
